A Door in the Swamp is a psychological mystery story about a woman struggling to pick up the pieces of her fractured life, and the wisdom she gains through her ordeal. It tracks her inner transformation through symbolic imagery while simultaneously depicting every dramatic turn in her outer life.

Jewel is an artist married for 25 years to Clark, a wealthy and famous producer. Abruptly, Clark checks out from their life together, claiming he's "on a Vision Quest" to get to the root of his emotional troubles. As Jewel eventually learns through a series of painful revelations, it's all a facade to cover up Clark's affair with a seductive, gold-digging Other Woman.

Learning the truth sets Jewel on a path that begins with turning away from her old life, then starting to construct a new one through self-growth work and investigation into the factors that led to her split with Clark. Along the way she must confront her identity in relation to her family, and struggle to set her own course through the dark swamp of her emotions.

No cardboard heroes or villains drive the narrative; instead we are presented with complex human beings confronting overwhelming challenges, often in a void of self-knowledge.

More than just a work of fiction, A Door in the Swamp can also serve as a guide for others in navigating through the morass of their darkest emotions.
